A Salute to the Brave
Today we recognize the hard work and dedication of brave wildland firefighters everywhere.
These courageous first responders risk everything to protect natural and cultural resources, property, and to save lives.

It is important on this day to reaffirm our commitment to firefighter safety and support research and development efforts for the next generation of firefighting gear.
We are thankful for the service and sacrifice of wildland fire responders and the families and friends who support them.

What Can We Do?
First and foremost, we can help prevent wildfires.
Avoid sparks and flame during droughts and high winds, build controlled fires, and make sure your fire is completely extinguished.
Practice vehicle safety, properly maintain your vehicle and equipment, and never park on dry grass.

We express deep gratitude for our wildland firefighters who heroically protect our forests, many of whom are away from their families for weeks or months at a time. And we remember those who have fallen in the line of duty, paying the ultimate sacrifice.
